What parents said about last year...
"The keynote speaker was wonderful. I learned so  much. It is so helpful to realize that I am not alone in my struggle to understand my son. I also appreciate knowing that so many other parents are going through the same challenges."

"The conference was well organized and provided a variety of break-out sessions, which was helpful because everyone came with the same focus, to learn about gifted children and how to help them, but we all came into it with different levels of experience. There was something for everyone."

Karen

Parents of Gifted Children Discussion 1:30 PM - 3:00 PM
Mesa Community College
1833 W Southern Ave, Art/Communication Bldg AC, Mesa, AZ 85202

You are invited to a discussion group for parents of gifted/talented students sponsored by Arizona Association for Gifted and Talented (AAGT). It will be held Saturday, January 23, 1:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. at Mesa Community College. This opportunity is an important part of a workshop in which professionals in your area are being trained to conduct guided discussion groups based on the SENG (Supporting Emotional Needs of Gifted) model. SENG workshop participants will facilitate the Saturday afternoon sessions under the supervision of Dr. James Webb and Mrs. Arlene DeVries who are conducting the training. The presenters, who co-authored the award winning book, "Parent's Guide to Gifted Children," will share information about gifted children, followed by parent discussions on topics such as motivation, discipline, stress management, peer relations, sibling rivalry, and tradition breaking, as they relate to parenting gifted children.  This will be a wonderful opportunity to meet other parents of gifted, and gain some insights in guiding the development of your child.  If you plan to attend, please RSVP. Please call Alison at 602-882-1848 if you have any questions.

Barrett Summer Scholars
Happy New Year!

I am currently looking into a summer program at ASU through Barretts's college for our middle school gifted students.  As I gather more information I will share it on this website.

The Gifted Conference is being held this year on Feb. 3rd, 4th and 5th.  Our district has always sent us for two days and had intended to do the same this year.  They paid the fee and two days for subs.  This year we did not receive the grant we had expected so there is no money to accommodate us this year.  If you are able to attend any or part of the conference would you be willing to share what you learn at our next parent meeting?   Please let me know.

Gifted testing scores
Parents,

All third grade students were tested for our gifted program in August, and I have now received the students' scores.  I have also received scores for those students of other grade levels whose parents requested gifted testing in September.  I will be contacting only those parents whose children qualified for the gifted program.  To qualify a child must score at or above the 97th percentile in one of these three areas:  verbal, nonverbal or quantitative.

If your child did not qualify for our gifted program but you'd like to receive his/her scores, please give me a call and I will share them with you.
